Samla Cunha has a bachelor's in Veterinary Medicine and an MS in Genetics and Animal Breeding that she completed in Brazil. Currently, Samla is a Ph.D. student at the University of Guelph under the supervision of Dr. Angela Cánovas and the Co-supervision of Dr. Flavio Schenkel. Her Ph.D. project aims to identify functional and positional markers associated with the genetic resistance of sheep to gastrointestinal nematode infection and its potential application in breeding strategies. Samla has experience with molecular diagnostics of genetic diseases, molecular biology, genetic parameters estimation, genome association studies, and modelling. She is interested in animal breeding, quantitative genetics, and genomics.
