Vanesa is pursuing a master's degree at the University of Alberta under the guidance of Dr. Gleise M. da Silva. She holds a bachelor's degree in animal science from Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Following her undergraduate studies, she participated in a research internship program at the University of Florida, focusing on beef cattle nutrition and greenhouse gas emissions.
Her current master’s project investigates the effects of early-life supplementation of bovine-derived Lactobacillus spp. on beef calves, aiming to assess its potential to mitigate stress at weaning. Additionally, Vanesa contributes to other research initiatives. These include studies on the impact of good vaccine practices on vaccine effectiveness in beef cattle, collaborative efforts with lab members on topics such as feed efficiency and weather resilience, the use of growth-promoting implants to improve calf health and performance, and evaluations of in vitro ruminal fermentation characteristics of various pastures from Alberta's dry mixed grass natural subregion.
