Miss Jazmin Markey - MS, PAS, is currently a PhD candidate studying Ruminant Nutrition as it relates to calf health at Oklahoma State University. Her research focuses on factors effecting the BRD complex and includes the evaluation of novel feeding strategies as a means of mitigating the severity of BRD cases. She is from south-central Pennsylvania. She graduated with a Bachelors in Animal Science from Delaware Valley University in May of 2019 and a Masters in Animal Science from Oklahoma State University in May of 2021. During her undergraduate career she received six academic achievement scholarships and was awarded the Ms. Pamela Rebecca Blodgett Outstanding Senior Service Award. She completed multiple student research projects in both beef and dairy cattle nutrition as well as a summer research program at the William H. Miner Agricultural Research Institute in Chazy, NY. While at DelVal, Miss Markey served as an undergraduate teaching assistant for the Introduction to Animal Science course as well as the Animal Reproduction course. At Oklahoma State, she has served as a graduate teaching assistant for five undegraduate level courses. While her Masters program focused on teaching and extension principles, she maintained her involvement in research and writing, resulting in her name appearing as a contributor and/or co-author to seven publications. She received a 2021 Graduate Student Teaching Award from the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture organization and was a repeat Targeting Excellence Organization scholarship recipient in recognition of her commitment to food animal agriculture. She is set to complete her PhD program in the Summer of 2024. Miss Markey is currently a member of the American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists, American Society of Animal Science, American Dairy Science Association, North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture, American Quarter Horse Association, and United States Equestrian.
