Graduated as an Animal Scientist from the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV) in 2000; Master and PhD in Ruminant Nutrition and Production from UFV, respectively, in 2003 and 2007. Post-doctorate in MINERAL
NUTRITION OF CATTLE from Colorado State University, CSU, USA, 2015/2016, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Terry E. Engle. Author of 2 books, 19 book chapters, and more than 60 papers in specialized scientific journals, as well as organizer of four other books in the area of animal production. He has mentored more than one hundred undergraduate and graduate students. Before his academic career, he had positions for five years in the mineral nutrition industry. Since 2009 he has been a Professor in the Department of Animal Science at the
Federal University of São João del Rei – DEZOO/UFSJ and an effective member of the Graduate Program in Animal Science at the Federal University of Vales do Jequitinhonha and Mucuri – PPGZ/UFVJM and the Graduate Program in Animal Science from the North Fluminense State University (UENF) and the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ), a program offered jointly by the two institutions. Prof. Dr. Fernando Leonel concentrates his research work on the following areas: Mineral Nutrition of Ruminants; Animal Food; Beef Cattle Nutrition and Production.
