Dr. Ching-Yi Chen is a Research Scientist Manager at PIC (Pig Improvement Company), a leading global swine breeding and genetics company. Originally from Taiwan, she earned her BS degree in Animal Science in 2000 and her MS degree in Biotechnology in 2003 at the Chinese Culture University. She earned her PhD in Animal Breeding and Genetics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln under the supervision of Dr. Dale Van Vleck and Dr. Roger Johnson in 2007. She then worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Georgia under the mentorship of Dr. Ignacy Misztal through 2010. Dr. Chen has 14 years of experience in the pig industry, specializing in genetic improvement research and development. Before joining PIC, she worked as a Senior Scientist specializing in genetic evaluation at Newsham Choice Genetics. She joined PIC in 2013 and supported the implementation of single-step genomic selection. Her current responsibilities at PIC center on in-house genomic selection research and new trait development, leveraging large-scale pedigree, phenotype, and genomic data to advance the genetic potential of PIC’s global swine populations. Additionally, Dr. Chen supports collaborations with global research institutes.
