Research Associate II: Monogastric Nutrition scientist

Dr. Perez Palencia is a Research Associate (Monogastric Nutrition) in the Department of Animal Science at South Dakota State University. He earned his B.S. degree in Animal Science at Universidad de Sucre - Colombia in 2014 and a M.S. and PhD in Swine Nutrition from Universidade Federal de Lavras - Brazil in 2015 and 2018, respectively. Dr. Perez Palencia has spent the last 4 years in United States conducting research related to applied swine nutrition with a primary focus on the evaluation of ingredients and additives in pig diets and their effects on performance and intestinal health. As part of his current role at SDSU, Dr. Perez Palencia also is involved in building relationships with companies and different organizations in the swine industry as well as mentoring students. Dr. Perez Palencia serves as editor for the Pork Information Gateway (PIG, https://porkgateway.org). PIG is a free resource on the U.S. pork industry, typically used by educators, extension agents, producers, and students. The PIG library contains factsheets, how-to guides, references, and videos that cover all aspects of the pork industry.
